Gana-A’Yoo Shareholders and Descendants:

The spring 2024 full time and part time general scholarship application is live! Please visit ganaayoo.awardships.org to begin applying. The deadline is Jan. 1, 2024.

Gana-A’Yoo Foundation offers four (4) travel and expense scholarships to attend Alaska Works Partnership free training events. Applications are accepted year-round!

The Gana-A’Yoo Foundation Board of Directors has one open position for individuals passionate about supporting fellow shareholders and helping our Foundation grow.

Available Positions:

1. Three-Year Term (Starting March 2024)

Current board members are Alexis Sheeder (2024), Kaitlyn Demoski (2025), and Shay Huntington McEwen (2026).

Board members must be 18 years of age or older to qualify. Please note that under federal laws governing private foundations, family members of Gana-A’Yoo Foundation board members are not eligible to receive a Foundation scholarship during their term on the board. Current scholarship recipients are also not eligible to serve on the board.

Please join us! The Gana-A’Yoo team is hosting a Shareholder/Descendant Open House at our Anchorage office on Thursday, October 19 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.  Come for the tour of our new office space, to spend time with fellow shareholders/descendants, and to get to know your Gana-A’Yoo team. There are cash door prizes and lunch will be provided!

If you can’t make it but would still like to participate, we would love to display your themed photo (and/or message) in a special slideshow that will play during our two-hour event on the first day of the 2023 AFN Convention!

Because the theme of this year’s Convention is “Our Way of Life” (honoring Alaska Natives’ traditional practices), our photo slideshow also follows that theme. Show how proud you are of your subsistence traditions by sending in your favorite photo representing our treasured traditional ways of life – if you’d like to add a note for an Open House attendee to see, send that to us too! We are excited to hear from you: What does “Our Ways of Life” means to you?

If you’d like to showcase your photo and a message, please send them directly to communications@ganaayoo.com. Please submit: 1. as many of your subsistence-themed photos as you’d like, 2. the photographer’s name, 3. brief photo description (location, etc), 4. and (optional) any message you’d like to share with our Open House attendees!
